Living Arts Project 2016

The Living Arts Project 2016 was a public art project in primary schools funded by the Wexford County Council and hosted by the Wexford Arts Centre. It is an annual project which involves between 3-4 professional artists in residence assisted by interns, to provide a workshop program to selected primary schools throughout the county.

I was intern to local artist Els Dietvoorst in Gusserane National School New Ross. Over the course of 12 weeks (documentation of which can be found on my blog) Els designed a fresh new art curriculum for the pupils to learn through both research and practice. Her main objective was to  improve their drawing skills and visual literacy, open them up to art appreciation and encourage them to develop more liberal creativity with different materials. The work was exhibited in the Wexford Art Centre in April/May 2016 at the end of the residency. Photos of the set up and opening can be found above: sculptures created by the pupils of Gusserane NS, installation by Els Dietvoorst, slideshow of pupil's drawings (below) by Tara McGinn. Big thanks to our technician Lar O'Toole, Els's mentor Karla Sanchez, curator Catherine Bowe and the support of the staff of Gusserane National School.
